HOMEOWNER RESOURCES >> CARE & CLEANING >> AREA RUGS

Don't wait until your rug is soiled! Vacuum regularly to protect your rug's appearance. Use a good quality vacuum that features a beater bar brush and adjust to pile height.

Masland Area Rugs recommends an approved dry extraction maintenance system (such as the Host System) every six months (more often for commercial settings) to keep the rug looking its best.

Warning: Attempting to clean your Masland Rug with a wet process of any kind, including hot water extraction, carpet shampooing, or commercial aerosol foam products intended for broadloom carpet may permanently damage your Masland rug and will void your warranty.

Masland recommends immediate treatment for spots or stains:

• For water-soluble stains or water-soluble stains with odor or heavy color, spray with a solution of ½ teaspoon (no more) liquid dishwashing detergent to one-quart water. Blot in single direction with white paper towel. Spray with water to rinse. Blot dry in a single direction with white paper towel. Repeat if stain persists.

• For grease, apply dry-cleaning solution to a white paper towel and blot in a single direction. Do not spray solution directly onto rug surface.

• For waxes and gums, freeze spot with ice or a commercially available product in aerosol form. Shatter with a blunt object and vacuum immediately. Repeat as necessary.

Wool area rugs, such as those in our American Home Designs Collection by
SonnaTM, are constructed from the world's finest custom-dyed New Zealand wools. Though naturally stain resistant, wool is not mothproof, and it should be remembered that moths do not eat wool; they eat through the food and other edible stuff that gets spilled and stays on the rug.

American Home Designs recommends WoolClean Magic for spot cleaning their collection. WoolClean Magic is a specially treated cloth that quickly removes both oil and water-based spots from wool carpets and rugs. Although it is designed specifically for wool floor coverings, it also performs beautifully and safely on other fibers.
